ABOUT MARCATA RECORDING
A History of Marcata Recording
Marcata Recording is a recording studio/equipment repair barn in Hudson Valley, New York, and was first started by The Walkmen in 2000 as a purely analog facility. The studio was located in Harlem inside what had been a NASCAR production facility.
I came on board in 2003 and took over daily operations, bringing my collection of vintage microphones, preamps, and a long history of studying great live performance from the decade of work as a live sound engineer/designer at the now defunct but not forgotten venue Brownies in New York City’s East Village. This is where I developed my love of living interactions between musicians, the ability to recognize the spirit of an artist’s vision, and the ability to act with a sense of urgency toward nurturing an environment to allow that vision to be realized at any cost.

Marcata Recording moves upstate
I moved Marcata Recording to the town of New Paltz, New York, in 2006. The studio is built inside an over 180-year-old barn located on 44 acres overlooking the Shawangunk Ridge.
Marcata Recording is a residential recording studio offering Analog Tape and Digital Recording, a large selection of Vintage Tube/Solid State Recording Equipment, Mics, Instruments, and Amplifiers.
Marcata Recording’s main live room has 34 ft ceilings and has been designed to easily allow customization of acoustic reflections.
Marcata Recording has multiple rooms to allow any configuration of live ensemble or isolation of players that may be required.
The technical design, wiring, and layout afford seamless transitions between tracking and mixdown modes and minimize typically lengthy setup times. This offers a sense of transparency to the equipment itself, which allows the focus to be on the music.
